The Maasai Mara and the Serengeti are stunning safari locations. The chance to spend a couple of weeks in Africa in the world should be snapped up by any body. Many believe this was a description of Montezuma’s Well and the nearby Montezuma’s castle. The well is a sinkhole into a cavern where over a million gallons of water flows each day. At present, nobody has been able to trace the source of the water that flows into this desert oasis.

Because of their image as a place for travelers to rest, oases have lent their name to many resting or stopping places. One such is the Desert Oasis RV Park and Sand Dune Resort in Idaho. The park is open from May through mid September. It has 72 campsites and miles and miles of sand dunes where people dune ride, snowmobile in the winter and explore the many caves found near the property.

Some caves have their own interesting story.  Lava cooled into tubes to form these caves.  These caves extend for miles and miles underground.  A great amount of insulation is provided by lava.  That keeps the caves cool even in the summer.  It’s a good idea to wear a jacket there.

Other popular recipients of the oasis name are hotels. One such is the Sheraton Desert Oasis in Scottsdale Arizona. It’s located in the Sonoran Desert which provides a beautiful backdrop for the hotel. The area is hardly barren. So it seems an oasis can be many different things.

That was it, now it is time for me to get that luxury holiday i wanted. I have been working as a Barrister for many years and was getting to the point in life where I wanted to try something new. So i thought to myself, best make this a holiday to remember, I’m off to the Caribbean?

 

So I booked a two week holiday that would take me to three islands. The first was the Bahamas, a fantastic place of sun, sea and sand. I thought to myself that when i get here i just want to chill by the beach, little did i know i was going to find something i really wanted to try. The dolphins were amazing, I went swimming with them and they almost seemed to be very patient with me. They seemed like they were so at peace with the trainers, and even gave me a couple of affectionate kisses. Any cost is worth this experience, i had one whole hour on my own with a trainer and a dolphin. The Bahamas was great, so far Caribbean holidays, well worth it.

 

So next I was taken to St Lucia. This was a pretty island, it’s beauty enthralled me, i even spotted myself a celebrity in the form of Amy Winehouse. At first i thought i had landed on the wrong island, because i had landed on an island with beaches, but it was also covered in a forest. Our guide took us out on a safari in the Caribbean, truly amazing. I had heard a lot about St Lucia holidays, but seeing it first hand was brilliant.

 

Next up was a real treat, Barbados. I had been looking forward to this last part of my holiday, I have always wanted to go on Barbados holidays, but it has not been completely available to me. This was the night life island, going out in the evenings was great fun and I had the most wonderful time, I would recommend these holidays to anyone that asks.

 

Alicante is perhaps best known as the gateway to the Costa Blanca, famed more for its airport than for the tourist trapping provided by more familiar neighbours, Benidorm and Denia. Most visitors to Alicante use the town as an arrival and departure point, not stopping long enough to see what the area has to offer. The boulevard meanders pleasantly past the marina and beachfront area which merges into the charming Old Quarter.

From a pleasant base in Alicante, Costa Blanca offers much to the more discerning tourist. The church at Altea is renowned and presents one of the most enduring and symbolic sights in the Costa Blanca. The regions old towns are typically a mix of traditional Christian and Moorish architecture with narrow, cobbled streets and plazas offering a pleasant atmosphere to while away the hours ( http://www.costablanca.org )

Further South lie Murcia and Valencia ?a thriving modern city which has benefited from regeneration in recent years. Valencia is a cosmopolitan city which juxtaposes the traditional and modern features of Spain in miniature form.

Alicante provides the ideal base for exploration of the region. The town offers a fine tourism infrastructure itself but the best way to explore the Costa Blanca is by self drive. There are several options for those willing to travel out with Alicante to discover the Costa Blanca on their own terms. The reliable train service meanders up and down the coast, taking in Altea and Denia as well as the bright lights of Benidorm. For a more authentic experience, hire cars are readily available.

Driving in the region has much to offer with pleasant coastal roads allowing you to explore on your own terms. The roads are generally safe, but some of the more mountainous areas should be traversed with some additional caution.
