Granada City – Take In A Rich And Unique Cultural Diversity
The story of Granada's past portrays the myriad influences that many cultures have left on the city's architecture. The city flourished as a trading center under the Moors. It was then taken over by King Ferdinand II of Spain in1492. The city became more established in Christian terms when a cathedral was built and a university was established in 1531.
Preceding the takeover of the city by Christian monarchs, the arcitecture represented the ideas of the Moorish leaders. Although many of the Moorish and Arabic influences in the city were willfully destroyed by the following cultures, it still represents one of the most complete examples of Moorish buildings and architecture in Europe.
With Christian rule, came Christian ideas, notably in the architecture where Gothic and Renaissance designs predominated.
The mix of Moorish, Islamic and Chistian architecture and influences in the city dating back hundreds of years is a great attraction for any tourist keen to see a lost past.
Granada’s mountainous geography has preserved a unique patchwork quilt perspective into the cultures which have influenced Granada. Are you travelling to Spain? This is the best audio book to take with you
Filed Under Travel | Comments Off
Are you thinking of going for a holiday in Spain?
If you are then you really should think about taking up the Spanish language. It’s a massive advantage to actually be able to converse with people, this includes airport staff, hotel staff and even Spanish locals as you are exploring.
So you don’t think you’ll need to know the language? Well, if so you need to know that almost everyone you meet will be speaking the language. If you’re not able to understand of converse with people it can really have an effect on your holiday, it could spoil your experience.
So, yes, you need to really consider learning the Spanish language before you embark on your trip to Spain.
Oh… You’re going away in the next few days and therefor will not have anytime to teach yourself it?
You do not need to worry about that. Just getting your hands on the right audio book about learning Spanish language can teach you the language within a very short time.
Impossible?
Not really.
There are many audio books that teach the Spanish language, but my favorite is - “One-Day Spanish: Teach Yourself” by Elisabeth Smith.
This incredible audio book is ideal for anyone that wants to go holidaying in Spain. As the title implies, it is really a one-day Spanish crash course that can teach you the language faster than you can imagine.
There’s no complex grammar or studying to do, just really quick and fun speaking practice. And guess what? It really is awesome for helping you learn the Spanish language.
Still think it’s impossible?
This is somthing you might find interesting. If any one person can learn a particular 50 - 100 words in the English language, that is all it takes to be able to actually understand and possibilly even speak the language?
For example, this entire article won’t contain more than 50 to 100 words. Most words are always repeated when we speak, whether in the English language or any other language.
This is the same case pretty much every other language, Spanish inclusive.
The “One-Day Spanish: Teach Yourself” by Elisabeth Smith is really good as it teaches you the fifty words you will need in the Spanish language.
With this audio book, which is just about 1 hour and 8 minutes, will enable you speak holiday Spanish in only one day!
An excellent source that I have found for audio book downloads is Spoken Network. You can find them at:

Should Cuba be getting noticed for its growing tourism as well as its famous Cigars
Filed Under Travel | Comments Off
Are the cigars that Cuba produces the most important thing about the country?
The Cohiba is one of the world’s most expensive cigar brands and has many different types, with prices ranging from 30 pounds to 250 pounds per cigar. Cuba is known around the world for its famous Havana cigars and cigar making skills.
However Cuba isn’t just about the cigars that they make this quaint yet booming island has many other cultural gifts to offer us. The history of this Island is amazing with famous figures ranging from politician Fidel Castro to actress Eva Mendez. Even places like Castillo de Farnes, where Che Guevara and Castro toasted the success of the revolution, these seem to go unnoticed.
Cuba holidays offer us a new niche of tourism. Although we are trying to get away from the fact that Cuba is known for its Cigars, there is a couple of places you can go and roll your own. Places like the Real Fabrica de Tabaco’s Partuga’s in Havana give you the opportunity to make and roll your own cigar, there are other places in Cuba that help you do this as well. Now that tourism is becoming a massive money earner in Cuba, it is becoming one of the worlds holiday hot spots.
The Cuba hotels are getting more and more modern every day. Although they do have some national treasures, the Nacional Hotel has starred in many gangster films with Frank Sinatra and is one of the oldest hotels on the island. This hotel is still beautiful and has 5 star rating, many famous figures have stayed here before including Winston Churchill.
Now that they have ferries from Cuba to Jamaica you can enjoy weekend Jamaica holidays as well. Although Cuba is famous for its Cigars it also provides us with a wide range of other cultural goodies and a history to inspire us all.

Ingolstadt in Germany
Filed Under Travel | Comments Off
Situated at the pretty Danube River in the guts of Bavaria, Ingolstadt is one of the eldest and most charming cities in Germany.
Early settlements prove the existence of a density of population since 1800 BC. The first time Ingolstadt was discussed in an official document was in the year 806 by Carl the Great and it became its town rights in 1250. Although that, the town is being considered found around six hundred AD by Ingold. The name was first “Ingoldes Stadt” (City of Ingold), but across the centuries it has received its present name - Ingolstadt.
An engaging thing to understand about Ingolstadt’s history is the foundation the Bavarian Illuminati, a famous secret society, which was established by Adam Weishaupt in 1776. Moreover, Ingolstadt is the seat of the vehicle company AUDI, which was set up by August Horch. AUDI is also believed by some to be an acronym for car Union Deutschland Ingolstadt. The city has a very successful ice hockey team called ERC Ingolstadt, which is presently in the 1st place of the DEL in Germany and made the second place in last years’ play-offs. The town is also the setting of the famous book “Frankenstein” by Mary Shelly.
Through the centuries, the city center of Ingolstadt has kept its old typical town architecture style and buildings that date from the middle Ages. Some pieces of the city wall are restored in their original look and there are 2 museums that are worth a visit, like the Army Museum, the Toy Museum, the German Drugs Historical Museum and others.
Although this town has a quite little population of roughly 122 000 folks, Ingolstadt has a big number of feasts celebrated throughout the year. The most famous ones are the “Pfingstvolksfest” ( 02.06-11.06 ) and the “Herbstfest” (22.09-03.10), where folks are drinking lots of lager, enjoying the theme park-like atmosphere and looking at the little sales booths. You could really say that it is a little version of Oktoberfest. Having discussed these beer-feasts, it now appears suitable to name the 4 breweries, which are providing the beer for them and are of course situated in Ingolstadt: “Ingobräu”, “Herrnbräu”, “Nordbräu” and “Westpark and “Westpark Bru 1516″. Other bigger banquets are the “Brunnenfest” (01.04-17.04), “Septemberdult” (09.09-17.09 and the “Christkindlmarkt” ( 01.12-23.12 ). In this year there will be even more feasts and parties, as Ingolstadt is celebrating its anniversary - exactly 1200 years, in February.

Germany A Place for Many Famous Attractions
Filed Under Travel | Comments Off
To start I want to say that the general public are right, Germany is a GREAT place to visit. I heard on the radio the other day that over 4,000,000 US people visited Germany in 2005 and to be fair it didn’t surprise me at all. With so many beautiful things to see and experience who wouldn’t be interested?
Lets start off with the obvious attractions: Castles, German Lager and German Food.
Castles : maybe the number one attraction of Germany. Castles are one of Germanys most historic prized possessions. With at least one Castle in each single decent sized town in Germany, you may always have a place to visit irrespective of where your travels in Germany take you. Many of these Castles have nice restaurants inside where you are given information on the historical price of the establishment, not to say great food in my experience.
German Lager : Many say that German lager is the best worldwide, due to this many German breweries are nervous to give up their ‘tricks of the trade’ many exclaiming ‘its in the water’. Whether this is true or not Germany definitely has a reputation for providing tasty preservative free beer. The German govt essentially remits that just a few main ingredients are to be added to the lager and no chemicals can be added, BY LAW.
German Food : I am sure that you all have either heard about or tried some of the everyday German dishes, i.e. Schnitzel, Wursts ( German sausage ) and Spatzle, but what you may not have tried are some of the ‘not so traditional’ but common dishes in Germany. If you are planning a trip to Germany I recommend going to any German restaurant and ordering the house special. Most restaurants , just like in the U.S, have a place special that is not like restaurant to cafe and will usually be very delicious.
